This book is ok, but not the best. I bought the kindle version of this to help me identify my grandmother's extensive barbie collection. It is helpful for background and relative value of items, but the actual prices are off in today's market. The book is good for barbies from the 80s and before, but the 1990s coverage is kinda spotty. There is also not much coverage past 2000.Unfortunately for me, my grandmother was most active collecting in the early 1990s. I was able to determine relative value for most, but not all of my grandmothers collection. Also, if the barbies you want to look up don't have the box, this book will not help you figure out which one it is.Was it helpful? Yes.Would I say it is essential to barbie collecting? No. Just doesn't cover enough and is a little outdated.I'm not unhappy with my purchase, just know ahead of time the limitations this book has. There are probably better guides out there, but I wanted one on the kindle for the search feature. If you have the same need then this book is really the only decent option.
I love this pocket-sized babbie guide. I can stick it in my purse and take it with me anywhere! It's filled with great information!
If you have the original Barbie Field Guide - do NOT bother to waste your money on this one. It is essentially the same book, page for page. I assumed that this was the next edition, with all new Barbies, and info, but it is basically the same book with a new cover. Just a way to make a little more money - very aggravating. The price guide is a joke. The only reliable price guide for Barbie is going on ebay and searching completed auctions - everything else is just hype. All in all, very few Barbies are featured in this book, and not many of the ones that you would find on the secondary market. Really a waste of time.
has nothing to do with today's collectibles and this is year 2014. not for the near generation of collectibles.these dolls are from the 50s - the ones my older sister had not the ones i bought in the 80s to collect as an adult.
I found several conflicts in this little book. In a three to one research this book had information incorrect in placing the dolls in order.
Good for reference
Didn't like this. It was to hard to find anything in it. And didn't have prices in it. I was looking for something to help me sell barbies. This wasn't it.
It helped our family to identify all our Barbie dolls from the 1960's and 1970's. The prices gave us a good starting point as to their value.
