I absolutely love this book! The author did a great job of compiling so many cute cake designs into this book. It comes with plenty of instructions, and also her own delicious recipes for different cakes and frostings, which saves the trouble of searching for just the right recipe. The designs are super cute, but simple enough for beginners. Would make a great gift, or plenty of fun for someone wanting to start a new hobby. The author is also very responsive on social media should you have any questions!
This book is simply precious. I bought it for my 13 year old niece who has recently begun to explore cake making and decorating. She said this book will definitely inspire her!

My daughter is a cake decorating fanatic. She loves to do cakes. This book was something I thought she would love. Let's see how it worked out..WHAT IS THIS BOOK LIKE?This book is very well laid out. It has lots of photos, so those visual learners out there will LOVE that feature. The explanations of tools, procedures, and methods is decent and should be easy to understand for most people of varied ages. The cakes in the book are all quite basic, but fun to play with.HOW EASY WAS THIS BOOK TO USE?The book comes with basic recipes in it. That means frosting and cake recipes are included for those who need help in that area. The designs are simple and do not get too crazy and over the top creative. Those who are beginning will have plenty to work with. Those who desire to go all out and create masterpieces might be disappointed.The instructions were clearly laid out and the two cakes we made turned out well. We made the vegan cake/frosting and adapted the vanilla cream cake recipes to be more paleo as well. We also adapted the vanilla butter cream frosting using buttermilk powder instead of confectioners sugar. We had to serve it to someone who can not have cane sugar. For regular baking, we tried on cake an it turned out nicely along with regular frosting. We made the bear (with chocolate vegan) and the flower power cake for the regular version.DOES THIS INCLUDE VEGAN OPTIONS?Yes, this book includes a cake and frosting recipe for vegans. We also adapted one of the recipes which worked out okay, but needs some work. Since it was our own adaptation that is no reflection on the book.THE BOTTOM LINEFor great basic cake decorating, this book is a great place to start. There are many ideas which are not overly difficult to do, and even some vegan options for those in your life who may need that option.MY RATINGFour stars. This is a great book to begin with, but not quite as creative as we had hoped it would be. Almost all of the cakes are just round and decorated- not much in terms of building of different shapes, etc. The burger cake is especially fun.
Recently, I went through a stint where I wanted to make all of the delicious things that I found on Pinterest. Now, if we are being honest, we all know how that generally turns out for people. My kitchen was overrun with cookies that would not set up (because of the humidity) and cakes that could have earned their place in the "nailed it" hall of fame--if anyone had gotten a chance to snap a picture. So I appreciate Lyndsay's sweet encouragement and story of her attempts and pushing forward. Babies can be expected to bake a perfect cake... truth. Neither can this "baby".I loved the colorful photos and stories that she shares throughout the book. You can feel how sweet she is and just how much she loves what she does (and those that she does it for)!I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
I was counting the minutes to receive this book and when it finally arrived today I jumped to open it! Sadly, I was very disappointed!!! The cakes are pretty basic and mostly variations of the basic thing (for example, there's the dog/bear/bunny/fox cake, which just change color and face shapes). Moreover, what struck me the most, was the low quality of the paper. Usually this kind of book has a thick glossy paper that helps the colors and textures pop out (as Kawaii Cakes book), but this one has a porous mate thin paper that makes the pictures somewhat sad. As for the recipes, they are simple and mostly lacking innovation, the usual vanilla/chocolate cake, vainilla/chocolate buttercream, chocolate ganache, cream cheese frosting...All in all, if you haven't ordered it, I would suggest tonwait until it goes in sale!
As a baker I was very eager to preview this book for netgalley. The beginning of the book was great for a beginning baker or an experienced baker that wants to update some of their tools. Lyndsay Sung goes into great detail, photos included, of the tools a baker needs to successfully bake and decorate a cake. She describes how these tools are used in the various steps of baking/decorating. This book also includes some cute cakes that bakers can make at home for various celebrations, especially for children. With a little practice the home baker will be able to decorate their child's birthday cake like a pro. Recipes for her light and fluffy cakes and her buttercreams are also included. I can't wait to try her recipes especially the buttercream. If you are interested in learning to bake and decorate cakes at home for your family this would be the book for you.
