I bought this log because I’ve used asa since I started flying, it was the same part number I already have, and I didn’t like the Jepps lay out. This one is pretty much the same as the Jepps. The binding and pages don’t look like it will hold up like my old one. Also Printed in China instead of Canada. May go ahead just buy a Jepps for quality looking at my co-workers book.
I know I’m old and change is hard... This is my 5th (1st was 1978) and most likely last log book purchase. In both photos, the older style is on top. The quality of the cover isn’t what it used to be. Lighter duty. My new book came with some compression damage. It didn’t seem to be from shipping. The column divisions are not the same as they used to be (logbook #4 was started 1999), but will work just fine. I’m curious why it would still be called the “ASA-SP-6†since it is obviously a different log book, both quality and content.
I've filled two of the old ASA-SP-6 Standard Pilot Logbooks (ISBN 1-56027-166-3) and was very disappointed with the "new" format and quality of this "updated" logbook. I really wish I could find one of the older ones as the new format is very different from past editions. It may comply with "U.S. and International record-keeping requirements" as it states on the flyleaf - but it is not "user friendly" by any stretch for those who have used the "old" version - I can see many entry errors as I use the new logbook.The quality is also lacking from the earlier version; the cover isn't as heavy and pages are thinner - the book feels "flimsy" compared to the previous editions. As mentioned in the previous review, the stock number (ASA-SP-6) may be the same - but this book is far inferior to the original.
Ordered this for my husband after he did research and decided this was the book for him. A very big decision and not an easy one since this is only his 3rd book in all his many piloting years. He couldn't find the exact same one he had for the last 20 years and I thought for sure there was going to be a meltdown…..lol As we know, men don't like change and I mean that in the nicest way. But he has switched gears and tells me he has adapted and like it.
The book was delivered and opened up. It is totally backwards!!! The book binding was put together totally backwards. I will be sending it back ASAPI wonder how many other were sent out like that??????
Not the same format as your previous version. Check before you buy.
Great value, perfect master log
Really big log book. Probably better for commercial pilots but plenty of room if you're not.
