If you are a fan of Go Ask Alice you will fall in love with this book as well. The story telling is very much the same but updated to today's problems. It is a believable story and will draw you in. I feel like Go Ask Alice was a bit more gripping in its telling as there were times she wasn't saying much where the narrator in Lucy In The Sky doesn't fail at describing what is going on. This is also due to the fact that they are different type of addiction stories.That being said it is a sometimes graphic story with sexual themes and drug use. This is why these type of books are often on the banned books lists. If you are thinking of getting this for someone under the age of thirteen just be aware of the themes that this does carry within it.
This book was very interesting. Many parents these days can't tell or even take the time to to check to see if their kids are on drugs. She hid it very well. But her brother could have stopped it earlier than he did.
I love all these anonymous journals because they are so raw and not really like any other books I’ve found, it holds my attention really well I never want to put it down
I grew up with "Go Ask Alice" so I had to check this book out. I was one of many that were fooled by the original Anonymous author & believed it was a REAL diary! Oh, well. I'm 38 years old & I enjoyed this book. Yes, I realized it wasn't a real diary this time but it tool me back to the days of "Go Ask Alice" & I think all teens should read these books. The writing can be a bit cheesy but the message remains the same.
Junior year is going to be different for quiet, straight-laced Lucy. For the first time she has friends, a possible love interest and her older brother Cam is treating her like a grownup bringing her to parties. Her new friends smoke weed, even Cam does sometimes so Lucy gives it a try. Too bad she likes it so much. Soon Lucy and her friends are trying different, more dangerous drugs, while hoping Cam doesn't catch on. Lucy quickly spirals out of control. Can anyone stop her from self-destructing?LUCY IN THE SKY is written in fictionalized journal style by "Anonymous". While the story about a teen's descent into substance abuse could have been a cautionary tale, about 70% of this novel documents Lucy's drug usage in excruciating detail, often glamorizing the highs and minimizing the consequences. I would never recommend this virtual how-to manual to a teenager. I'd never recommend LUCY IN THE SKY to parents either, because they'd look at the parents in the book and think, "I'm not like that" since the characters were cardboard-like stereotypes.The book ended abruptly and seemed to say, "Make sure you're careful if you use drugs, don't go overboard."
Loved this book
Read most of the Anonymous books. Liked this one especially.
I think this book shows the true and real side to what drugs can do and why they are so dangerous. I felt as a teenager I could related to some degree of what she was going through. I think this was a good story because it wasn't just a story. It was like being there and actually listening to her. It was a sad story that tugged on my heart strings a little bit.
